Working!

For three full weeks I have had a full-time job at the Space Dynamics Lab, part of the Utah State University Research Foundation. It's where the University takes care of the research and development of technology like satellites and other electronic equipment. They also do a lot of contractual work for the government and other entities. My job is to test and debug the computers and boards they put together. So far, I've done a bit of that, including how to configure them (yay Linux!), but I have also done a few odd jobs here and there. The project on which I am currently assigned is called Groucho and implements a Synchronized Optical Network (SONET) communication and is a large board the sends and receives optical communications. We'll see how that breaks down. I've worked with the Groucho box myself and have put pieces together, taken them apart and even did some maths to find what some resistor values should be.

At the current moment, much of the team is in D.C and I finished testing the lastest Groucho and CPU with it so I'm looking for things to do. I have my own desk with computer in a lab with a whole lot of electronics. No one else uses the lab all that much so I basically have it to myself for now. There are nine computers with an excess of monitors and lots of oscilloscopes, power supplies, extraneous electronic equipment and the like. Basically, I'm in my element.
